So when I went to the beauty salon the other day, I essentially told the stylist I wanted to look polished, professional and put together.
I got instant rave reviews from my husband. A few hours following, he looked at me and said, don't take this wrong way, it is meant as a compliment...."you look like a soccer mom". He said it was the hair cut that made me look organized and...well like a soccer mom. "A lot of soccer moms are really beautiful women," he went on. This coming from the man who compliments me endlessly.
But really Soccer Mom? Hmmm? I was thinking more...Elle McPherson would have done. OK so Super Model aside...Ahem......
I googled stereotypical soccer mom. Then I got into the super mom stereotypes, and discovered that the descriptions of both have evolved over the years, and well suffice to say I don't fit any of the stereotypes. But it was a fun detour...and bless you all you super organized mini van toting reams of children behind perfect or imperfect hair making every appointment.
I will try to not hold you up at the 4 way stop while I sit there day dreaming about how Elle McPherson scrubs her face twice a day...and stays so fit at almost 50.
Do you scrub your face twice a day? Do you fit a stereotype? Or are you creating your unique spot in the world?

Saturday was...
A decadent lunch here: http://www.roseannascafe.com/cafe/cuisine/ followed by chasing the waves of a relaxed tide, a salty sandbath with the dog, and this sunset at a town farther down the coast:
A massage for the brain...Ahhh....it was, hello Monday, how are you?

This Yellow Brick Road
If YOU are in Kansas, you are two hours ahead of me. If YOU are in New York, you are 3 hours ahead of me. If YOU are in Canada, you are 4 hours ahead of me. If YOU are in England, you were 7 hours ahead of me, but now you might be 8 hours ahead of me if Uncle Ben was in a good mood and the clocks did indeed change last weekend. Why don't the clocks around the world all change on the same weekend? Just curious.
Seems I was writing from Kansas, the capitol of the Midwest, when all of a sudden a giant tornado whipped me up and blew me to the Northwest of Oregon. While I shouldn't even play with such terms, suffice to say that heavy wind and ill weather made for a road trip to remember. I had done my homework before we left and have acquired some useful - I think - tips for traveling with children and pets. Thankfully on safe arrival and with my recent gallivants I now have more to write about than I might have imagined.
We had hardly been here a week when in all sincerity and innocence, my 3 yr old daughter told a clerk at a store: "We're not in Kansas anymore". (Hear Kansas as three syllables here) The clerk laughed and I said, no really, we did just move from KS.
While I have traveled much, and lived many places, to my daughter, KS was a big part of her identity.
I am curious, do you think children are more adaptable than we give them credit, or do you think that routine rules? I would really like to know what you think about that.
It is my hope by continuing to write here at The Interrupted Cook, to stay in touch with those I have left behind, and if you are a traveler like me, that you will join the journey. I am interested in your comments and thoughts.
Please help me lay the bricks of this new yellow brick road! OK - if that sounded a little like a desperate plea, then may I assure you I will provide you with hours of entertainment...because in a new place I have a plenty of a wanderings and a wonderings. And I think this is where Father Christmas comes in the winter...forget the North Pole, Santa, I have sussed you out! While the area is widely known for vineyards, I have spotted equally as many and vast Christmas tree farms. Huge mountain sides full of them.
Merry Tuesdays all around and to all a good day.

Sombody has to do it.
I am taking the Heifer by the horns, and I might even put on an apron. Somebody has to do it.
I was thinking the other day how nice it is for a family to look forward to dinner time, to fresh cookies and milk, and an overall happy drum keeping a family in happy time. But so many times as the her that wears many hats, I find myself running in a million directions, ending up at the end of the day, fragmented, forlorn, and frumpty dumpty...with a frown :( So sad and interrupted.
So I hangs ups me 'ats, d' udder day and I says to meselfs, I be done wi' dat. And by thats I means, I do "mestics".
Mestics be pesty little things sometimes, other times domestics are more fun like shopping for the perfect chandelier for my daughter's bedroom redo.
Sometimes domestics do mean doing, but there are times to not do as well and hire in the right pro for the job.
How do you do mestics?

Who says Roses are Red?
And Who says Spring cleaning has to take place in the Spring?
I have been in this major state of spring cleaning, and for the middle of August it is surprisingly refreshing!
My soul is eased by that vacant shimmer of clean. Oh and fresh flowers.
I bought myself not one, not two, not a half dozen, not one dozen, but 18 gorgeous stemmed salmony pink and cream roses. I put them back once.
But why is it I don't have trouble buying myself bleach and laundry detergent?
The soap made it home and so did the roses. And this purring cat next to me had better not eat them!!

Scratch n' Sniffing
My kitchen smells like a scratch n' sniff book!
In the oven:
Strawberry mmm Muffins with a little cinnamon sugar on top...have one minute left on the timer. How fast can I type???
These will be good with a little butter, or just as they are...
When or what did you last scratch n' sniff? Only tell, if it was as good as strawberries and cinnamon.
